Should the congregation or the pastor set a church’s vision?

Thirty.Network’s Kevin Nguyen and DJ Chuang shared a breakout session about “Asian Americans Leading Well in a Multiethnic World” at the 2016 Asian American Ministry Conference and collected a handful of questions that will be answered in a series of videos on this blog.

This question was posed by one of the participants:

“We are a new church planting looking for a lead pastor. We have a core of 18 leaders, who’ve set the draft vision and mission, but like wet concrete, it’s not fully formed, not set yet. Our Asian culture “feels” like we need our lead pastor to finalize and set the church mission & vision. Will this be helpful or hindering to finding a lead pastor?”

Collecting and Sharing Our Learnings Together

The aspiration for this Thirty.Network blog is to be a collection of resources that we can share with Asian American pastors. But not just any generic ministry teachings, for there are plenty of good resources from mainstream evangelical Christian preachers and teachers, like churchleaders.com and pastors.com and blogs.thegospelcoalition.org.

What we’d love to see is more learnings and insights from Asian American pastors, by Asian American pastors, for Asian Americans and other Americans and all peoples. We know that pastoral ministry is very demanding, and many pastors do not have the extra time and energy it takes to develop an online platform that’d be a channel flowing constantly and regularly with fresh content.
